Always carry your passport on you. Under no circumstances should you pack your passport in your checked luggage. Even if you are traveling inside a country and won’t be needing it on hand, luggage can get lost.

If you lose your passport it’s the end of your trip. The best place to carry your passport is in your pocket, or ladies, in your purse. A good idea is to keep a photocopy of your passport in a separate item och clothing or carry-on bag just in case.

Do not keep your passport in your carry-on bag either, if you can avoid it. Even if you should keep an eye on your bag at all times, should the bag go missing the passport is gone also.

It is always a good idea to keep different types of important documents, like your passport, separate. If you lose your passport, but still have your health insurance card, credit cards and drivers’ license, then that will go a long way in helping you deal with the authorities should the worst happen.

Again, the best course of action is to always carry your passport on your person.
